Fancy yourself as a budding bard? Do you have something to say, a story to tell?
New Belfast Community Arts Initiative is listening for poets in a street near you! Throughout July and August we are inviting submissions for an audio anthology of Belfast’s poetic voice.
Poetry has been at the core of New Belfast activities since our inception. This year, New Belfast is making a radical departure from the way Poetry in Motion was run in previous years.
Five poets are working at community level in performance poetry residencies in the Greater Belfast area; engaging with community groups but also roaming the wider community, seeing opportunities to widen the making and reception of poetry.
The process will result in the creation of a professionally recorded audio CD, that will be published (along with an accompanying booklet) and a public performance of the pieces.
We urge that your submissions for the CD are recorded in your own voice. Submissions should be up to one minute long and preferably as a wav file or mp3, and sent in on CD, or hard-copy (if you want one of our poets to read them for you - include any instructions about how they should be read), to:
New Belfast Community Arts Initiative
Unit 4 Clanmil Arts & Business Centre
Bridge Street
Belfast
BT1 1LU
Or by email to: submissions@newbelfastarts.org
For both methods please include the following information.
Your name:
Your poem:
Your address:
Your telephone/email:
By submitting your work you grant NBCAI the right to publish but copyright remains with the poet. We regret we cannot return submissions nor inform of receipt or guarantee selection. Selected poets will be contacted.
The information you provided will not be passed to any third-parties.
CLOSING DATE: 5PM MONDAY AUGUST 18TH
If you don't have access to a way to record your poem in a digital audio format you can still send us your poetry text via mail or email and we will get your poems read for you by an actor.
If you do have the means but don't know how, then have no fear, we've provided you with a step-by-step tutorial...
New Belfast will also be having public recording sessions in your area soon; details of which are posted below.
