All I can say is wow, I honestly thought this was not going to happen as people didn't actually start showing up until AFTER 8:00pm! What is it with folk? but seriously hats off to everyone who attended the night. We kicked off a bit later than usual (8:30pm) and whilst people were slow to start, I got up for some really crazy 'of the cuff' poetry, which particular praise went toward's the first one of the night about the 11th night... Give it a blast and keep listening in as Rebbecca got up and preformed an amazingly High Energy poem to really make the night worth re-listening to alone! and that was only the first (short) half. Come second half, well, All I can say is to listen in when the pod casts become available (tonight! - Sat night folk) and PLEASE give some feedback here if you listened in! People started getting up and the night lasted well over the 10pm due time to end, but unfortunately it had to come to an end and thus a wrap on another fantastic night of open Mic poetry. (A feedback section is something I'm looking into for the website when it's being updated. But for the meantime, please discuss anything about the night, and the podcast here!)

I actually liked my performance for once, listening back to it. I will have to get smashed more often.

Just listened to this. No offence Stephen but I think your improvisation sounds pretty weak. You need to consider rhyme and rhythm more, and learn how these work and are put together. It's certainly a worthy effort but no one just improvises randomly. I've known a number of poets and MCs in my time who've improvised and a number of them show clear evidence of pre-thought out rhythm paterns and knowledge of rhyme lists, these things don't come naturally in abundance and are things that need a certain amount of working on. My comments are intended to be constructive and I hope you find them useful.

Thats interesting, but honestly, I think I just messed up a lot on the night mainly due to a lack of written material and no-one else seemingly wanting to grab the mic at the start, listening back i also agree with what ya say. The poem about the 11th night was more thought out. and actually sounds like it was rehersed to a degree... but the other stuff was just crap (by my own admission) I even cut out quite a bit of it cause I felt it was bad.
Apart from nit picking on my stuff Gerard you didn't really comment much on the rest of the night (which my post was primed at!) So was it worth the recording?

Yes Stephen, the night was worth recording. I'm not nit picking with regards to your stuff. I just think that you seem to want to go somewhere with improvisational poetry and that you could do with a few pointers in the right direction. Don't take it the wrong way. The 11th night piece sounded like you had an intended ending but got lost in the middle and had trouble bringing it round. Have you ever considered writing out rhyme lists? Not to learn but it gets your head into the whole business of thinking out rhymes quickly. Say all you can put down in one minute to rhyme with orange (bad example).

lol, must... not... try... bad examples! Seriously though, the lack of thinking showed through on that preformance was what I was getting at. Not meaning to be flammin' your ass or anything... even though reading back over my last statement it's easy to think I was! And by the way, Thanks for your critic!
