Advice? Best bit of advice is simple, you have 2 mins 15 secs... You don't need to use all the time, (closer the better) but be sure not to run over it. There will be 3 judges who will have a major say over who goes through... From previous tries, there are usually 2 rounds. The first is probably the hardest of all as no one wants to be out of the first round, so hit them with your best shot. No one really knows what the judges will look for, but part of what they will be looking for will be the style of poem, how well it is portrayed, and the content of the poem. so in that, my advice is to take your time, beleive in your poem, and most importantly, ENJOY IT! I will be there to watch, but won't be competing due to the lack of information that was given out (unless you were a facebook user!!!) So good luck to everyone, and I'll be chillin' out and enjoying the fun that is the Poetry Slam

Not sure about the credabilty of the judges in the Slam tonight a guy who made the last four ran over the time by twenty seconds at least and still got picked gutted! Not that I was thinking I should have got it just unfair to everyone else.
On the plus side it was a great night and good to see all my Muckers again and being truthful there a some shit hot poets among the Belfast circuit and a lot of you guys just keep getting better!
Well done to Mark I always really enjoy his performances anyway!

I was immensely pleased at my performance tonight (not to sound like a dick or anything, but after every time I get on stage I feel like a fetid sack of shit), and was happy to get through to the second round, but I definitely felt that some aspects were a bit shady, some were robbed and some got through due to some dodgy-seeming circumstances. Overall, it was my first slam and was shocked to get the highest score on the first round and enjoyed the night. Glad that Mark Madden is representing us in Liverpool in the coming months!

Well, the couple next to me had never been to a poetry session before, and the guy picked out every result except one the same as the judges, so overall, the judges were pretty fair- I would say that though. The one difference was that he had Seamus go through to the last round, instead of Noel, who went over, so y'all do have a point. I think Sarah from the Beeb confused the judges at the start with her time-tolerance, so I would let them off on that score. But a fabulous gig, really. I look forward to the semis in Liverpool in September. Well done Abby!!

As with all competitions of this nature, it provokes debate. There were a few I didn't think should have gotten as far as they did and a few I thought should have gone further, but I wouldn't suggest the judging was unfair, it's just way individual taste guides you. In the end I was pleased with the two that got through. Congratulations Abby and Mark.

I went to see this. The guy who did the poem about the computer game should have been in the final for sure.

Nervewracking doesn't quite cut it, I was disappointed not to get through to the second round but I think my choice of poem had a lot to do with that. I would maybe choose something with a less simplistic rhyme pattern the next time, and will definately not be attending a funeral the same day, so dying forbidden for anyone who knows me for the next slam!!!

Lol, well, I'm not gonna stir the pot on the whole judging results. but like Marc said, the judges may have been confused a little... but it's all water under the bridge now. I've been lookin' up other poetry slammers, and after listening to the girl on the BBC in Glastonbury (she won the glastonbury slam) do her poem of a boyfriend of 2 languages, All I can say is that Marc and Abi will need their A game down to progress further! She rocked. and mixing french with English really worked well into the bargain... But seriously though, locally here, we've nothing to hide, it's just gonna take a few special poems to which to knock the judges (and crowd)'s socks off! Roll on next year, cause I swear I'm gonna have my a game with me to boot
