I just received this email from the Creative Writers Network:
Arts Council cut Creative Writers Network funding.
Please help save Northern Ireland ’s main literary support services.
The Arts Council, without warning or consultation, have cut all financial support to CWN under the ASOP programme. This represents a £ 60, 000 cut in Literary Support, meaning that both our salaried posts are gone by the end of March. ASOP supports all of our activities and allows us to provide a wide range of services, including:
Brian Moore Short Story Awards
Weekly update
Mentoring Programme
Professional Reading Service
Website
Public Information Service
Professional Development workshops and Masterclasses
Ulla’s Nib Magazine
We are the only organisation providing support for all local writers and groups, and the loss of these programmes represents a savage cut in literary support in Northern Ireland . We are used as a resource and agency by writers, literary artists, storytellers and many public agencies. Through our other funding, we deliver literary projects to emerging audiences in some of the most disadvantaged communities in Northern Ireland, working with old and new communities alike, extending access and building skills in line with ACNI’s current strategy of putting ‘Art at the Heart’ of all our communities.
We are seeking a review of this decision. We would ask you all to write or email the Arts Council, asking them to reinstitute this funding and letting them know why you believe the work we do at CWN is worthy of support. We are hoping to meet with ACNI’s Chief Executive within a fortnight, so please let her have your opinion as quickly as possible.
Email, or write, to:
Chief Executive: Roisín McDonough

The Creative Writers Network have been a huge support to the writing community of Northern Ireland as a whole. Please email the arts council as above to get them to continue funding.
