Things may have changed in role and appearance, but the old scottish proverb still rings true... "The More Things Change, The More they Stay the Same" What do I mean by that? It's simple, it's never what you say, but how you say it that will ultimatly bring you hardship or happiness.

see ddddyyyy agrees with me. The problem with the majority of what's considered contemporary poetry is it's old ideas expressed in old forms or tired language.
Then when we get to performance poetry the scene is always stuck in open mic nights so the poets don't have a chance to grow as writers because it's always the same audiences with the same tastes.
Then there are some schools of thought that say performance poetry's value or power lies in its political statements which is just bollocks. The majority of political performance poetry is nothing more than rubbernecking.
