 The Summer Experiment 2009!
« Thread Started on Jul 21, 2009, 12:26am »

If we could be so bold...we'd like to make what appears to be a musical announcement!

“The Experiment is exactly this: a 'band' in its dying days from before you had even heard of them. Faced with the inevitable departure of members for careers and study; they know this isn't making it to the 1st EP release, nevermind enjoying the pleasures of having their major record label contracts nullified because their music is so heavily pirated. Ok ok...it all sounds very doom and gloom. But it is what it is...no strings attached...just creativity. Doing what you can while you can.”

The Summer Experiment may prove to be a repeat-offender.

After the success of The Summer Experiment 2008, four musicians went their separate ways onto different countries, music conservatoires and careers. The success of the short-lived project remained a curious interest for each of them as they were left to wonder what may have happened had they continued. From across the water, London-based film composer Chris Green followed the NI Music Scene intently and when he and Ruaidhri met at the RCM in September 2008 the pair were keen to continue the work. In Belfast, Cavan and John continued to create experimental electronic music under the name ‘Noise.Stop.Repeat.’ as an extension to Cavan’s PhD research at Belfast’s Sonic Arts Research Centre. As new partnerships and old partnerships merged, words were spoken about the possibility of a shiny new experiment happening in the summer of 2009, it seemed The Summer Experiment 2009 had already begun.

One fundamental element remains the same: The Summer Experiment will begin in July 2009 and cease to exist in September 2009. The quartet endeavour to enter into this process with an open mind by allowing the end result to take shape gradually without preconceived ideas of the result. The Experiment is continually recorded via the ensemble’s website and MySpace and the public are invited to follow their progress via images, sounds and words that will be posted regularly.

The creative process will be continuously documented online and at the end of the summer, the Experiment will conclude in a one-off mêlée of live music, visuals and performance poetry from the finest homegrown and imported talent.

We would like to warmly welcome you to The Summer Experiment 2009.

If you were brave enough to venture to the bottom of the post and beyond then we have something for you! Or if you were clever enough to skip on you can have it too.

We see TSE as a submersive creative collaboration, perhaps simplified to nothing more than a point of view. The summer, this defined moment in time, will be spent recording our thoughts and feelings through music and words and we want similarly minded people to do the same. A project with only a handful of shows at the end of the summer expressing how it is we feel about the very creative spark that drives us.

If you are interested in performing this year with work you have written on these thoughts please don't hesitate to contact us or continue the discussion right here...

We really hope to hear from you soon if we don't reach out to you first!

I for one would be interested. Would prove to be a very good experience :)
